I’ve got a pro on order, and I went from nov 9 to nov 21.
I upgraded to a Pro 2 weeks ago, and that has finally been updated in the shipping notification calculation this evening, taking me from an end of February date to December 29.
Works for me.
Air filter is projected for June.
At this moment, my Oct. 27th date is holding. Might be different in the morning though.
My date just went out I know Dan said the date could go closer or later, but I really wasn’t hoping on later. My date from the October update was March 15th, now it’s March 30th. Figures they had to kick me a little more since I was starting to be O.K. with the March 15th date.
My shipping date (Pro) just moved from January 2018, to TOMORROW, the 25th!
I only assume that cancellations will continue to rise with each delay, so that would naturally move projected delivery dates closer because people are falling out of the queue.
The fact that so many dates (including mine) just lengthened by a few weeks indicates another snag or snafu of some sort… sigh. My “shipping notification” date just moved from Nov 28 to Dec 18 - so definitely no GF for me for the 3rd Christmas in a row. Argh.
Edit: I see some Pros moving up, so perhaps they’ve really shifted to more Pros and fewer Basics, hence the additional delays.
Ahh nuts! My date slipped a day from October 26th to the 27th. I have been hovering on my email waiting for the golden ticket and now it is starting to move outward again. Granted it’s still this year, so far at least. I just hope this is an effort to be accurate and I don’t wait a week or 2 past that date.
I think the real conspiracy is: how many people have pre-ordered a GlowForge and subsequently died. After all the preorders are processed they’ll be unable to refund the money because they can’t contact the buyer and their accounts are all closed.
Wait?? What?? I ordered basic on Oct 20, 2015 and mine moved from Nov 29 to Dec 18. That “all things being equal” thing must be code for anything but equal.
I am a Day 24 Basic and mine slipped from Nov 9th to Dec 4th. Ouch, lost 4 weeks.
At this point, all things being equal also includes basic or pro. As well as what country you live in. Among other things.
Basic, pro … originally, it was supposed to ship in order of purchase date. Then that whole “all things being equal” verbiage got added into the mix and here we are. Someone ordered a year after me and has their machine already.
We updated dates today - some folks moved forward and some backwards. We’ll keep updating the forecast regularly for each unit until it ships. (We’ll also get better at it - this update took us two weeks because we made a bunch of improvements to the underlying model that would have otherwise allowed errors to accumulate).
Went from nov 14 to dec 6 for a basic. I am looking forward to the laser but this company is very disappointing. I don’t even know what to say anymore.
Why?
Different reasons for different people. Some are special cases, like folks who updated their orders, and we used their new order date instead of their original ones (the new calculation fixes that). Some people ordered a product that we made more or less of the past week. People may accept their units at a higher or lower rate then forecast. We might have had more or fewer returns than forecast.
Regular date adjustments will be a fact of life until we deliver, given that we’re regularly updating our forecasts with the latest data. (We may have been mistaken to do it this way, but folks wanted frequent updates and the most accurate information available, so we’re doing it - warts and all).
Why bother sending dates that are just going to consistently change? Seriously considering cancelling but like others it really chaffes me that if I do you will simply keep the 10K in referrals that I hustled for you (provided you don’t manage to lose them too) and laugh in my face as you sell my exact unit for double to someone else once you finally produce it. I feel scammed in the most devious of ways because the scam is designed to keep me hanging on. I believe that if you are competent you are liars because basic competence says that the video I watched in 2015 was clearly not the readiness of the product for market.
I took out a LOAN to pay for the glowforge. I had the loan so long I paid it off. With interest. Out of my 9-5 paycheck. I paid the interest on a loan that glowforge used the principle for, when I expected to make back my forge money in two months max. You’re welcome. (You are in no way welcome and I feel used and like an idiot, and the general consensus in my home is that this is very true)
Worse, I’m a graphic designer, and offered free business cards and stickers to my referrals. Not costly to me in anything but time, but certainly a factor.
Which leads me to my next issue…
I have one referral who is currently posting about her date, who does NOT appear on my referral list. I’ve messaged her about this to get as much information about the referral link she used (mine) as she can find two years later, but the fact that she did not cancel her forge leads to an ominous speculation. I assumed she cancelled when I saw I had lost 5 of the 10 referrals glowforge admitted I got-since the counter only goes up to 10. (If I had gotten 20 and 10 cancelled this would be as hard as possible for me to track. I really have no idea how many referrals glowforge may have quietly pocketed after I got my 10, then not reinstated when 5 of my 10 dropped off. I can’t prove it. Bamboozled again. Heck.) When the referrals updated they now had names and her name and her husbands name were not on the list. This leads me to the disturbing conclusion that if she DID use my link, but her name is not on my referral list… someone is a liar.
Given Glowforge’s history with alternative facts… I am DEFINITELY starting to get pretty (impotently) angry(er).
Really, all I wanted from the start was a realistic date. Especially once shipping started. Thanks!
I empathize - I went from Nov 3rd to Nov 27th. But what’s another 3-4 weeks between friends?
