You could at least send an email to Support and let them know who it was and that she’s willing to attest to using your link. If she didn’t get her $100 off then she entered a bad one. If she did, then Support can find who has her listed.
It seems you do have a question. You are just expecting a specific answer presuming bad faith.
They have stated elsewhere that the connection to the display of referrals is not an automated thing. It is possible that the list maintained for the web site stopped being updated when you reached 10 (believe me, programmers make “oh, that will be enough to store” decisions incorrectly all too often). Then, when someone processes a stack of refunds, they just run a query that removes the refunded items from any referral lists in the website database.
It would be a completely different and more complex query to say, “oh, we removed the referral for X from Y’s list, so go query the full order list and regenerate Y’s referral info for the web database.” And, if the order database and web database are not queryable by the same procedure (again not uncommon) it could get a lot more cumbersome.
I don’t know the answer, but support folks aren’t likely to even see the question buried in this thread, let alone answer it.
Yes, this is exactly my concern. I cannot run the unit without a filter, and the fact that Glowforge will not even say why the filter has been delayed is a huge red flag. At this point the estimate I am getting is March 9, which is not so very far away, but given the track record and that I have zero information about what that estimate is based on, I cannot credit it.
Ordered basic on 10/21, shipping just got pushed backed from 12/20 to Jan 03 2018.
BTW, just got an email from Shaper tools. They started shipping this week. Their campaign launched 14 months ago.
They said why in the email they sent everyone a couple of weeks ago:
“I do have one piece of bad news. Production on the Glowforge Air Filter you ordered has been delayed, and is estimated to ship to you on 04/18/18. The design is not performing as well as you deserve, and we don’t want to take it to production until it’s every bit as good as your Glowforge printer. This is still a rough date, and we’ll be working to refine it. You’ll have the choice of receiving your Glowforge printer immediately and using a window or dryer vent for the exhaust until your Air Filter arrives, or holding delivery until it is ready.”
In other words, they don’t have a filter that works to their satisfaction to build at this time.
(BTW the status under my account says my filter shipment notice will arrive around 4/30, not 4/18 like the email said)
Why would that be? Does it take more than 2 years to design and test a filter?
Probably not for you.
Bizop.
It takes longer than that (ie maybe never) if you start with difficult or aspirational specs. 1/3 as big, 1/4 as expensive and as effective as filters for the purpose of removing all odor from a tool which removes material by vaporizing it (ie pumping it directly into the air after adding a bunch of heat to it).
And there lies reality. GF is late for only one reason. They thought it was easier than it turned out to be.
I didn’t get an email until today, probably because I had deferred my date until the filter ships, and today’s email didn’t include that language. I had asked outright in the forums if it was a design problem or a production problem and Dan said he would not say. That worried me quite a bit.
So your post is something like news to me, but it doesn’t tell me much I can make an informed decision with. Why is it plausible that they will be able to start shipping filters in January when they aren’t in production in late October and nobody outside the building has seen a prototype?
He said a bit more about it in the following exchange:
Let’s be real. That date certainly does not mean that. That date is almost certain to slip. It’s gonna move and then it’s gonna move again.
My freshly slipped date of my recienyly slipped date is the end of December. Think I’ll have a glowforge in my house by the middle of February? Not likely Not likely at all.
I was commenting to the poster what other people who have had the same issue yesterday and today have been saying. It was explained that it once you get your “golden ticket” email, the GF “shipping” section disappears from your profile, since the shipping process has begun, which to us means they are putting you in line on the assembly line. That date was never the day your GF leaves the warehouse.
I’m sure dates are going to continue to slip for many.
This is one case where GlowForge has correctly prioritized their focus. Most of us would like to have a GF in hand even if we have to deal with the temporary inconvenience of plumbing it out the window.

My thoughts exactly. Seems like we’ve seen this movie before.
Not to be redundant, but the bottom line is that they sold us a filter they had no idea how to build or even if they could. They thought, “Hey! That would be great to have! Let’s sell people on the idea that it already exists, then see if we can figure out how to actually make one.”
Come to think of it, that’s exactly what took place with the Glowforge itself.
I canceled my order for the filter last week and got my refund yesterday. That thing is a 3+ year pipe dream at this point. I feel like I’m too close to receiving my GF to back out now, but that too may be delusional on my part.

I’m in a similar pickle. I can’t use the 'Forge without the filter, but I have grave doubts that the filter will be a reality for a very long time (if ever). Still pondering my options.
My plan for the last two years was to use the GF in my office where I do design work. There I would need the filter since I don’t have any windows that can serve as a vent.
At this point I’m either going use it at home or figure out how to create a hole to vent outside at the office.
Either way, my faith in the company’s ability to manage time and to communicate clearly has been exhausted - specifically where the filter is concerned. Since there are working models of the GF out there, I’ll continue to wait. But there’s no reason why the far less complicated item isn’t going to be delivered within a 30 month+ window.
Edit: As many others have already expressed, had I known I was paying for products that didn’t exist and they didn’t even know how to manufacture, I would have never bought one. While I’m sure I’m going to love it if I ever get it, I wouldn’t have spent my family’s money if they had been clear about what they were doing.
Funnily enough, had I known exactly what was going to happen, I would have ordered sooner. A lot of people are saying they would not have ordered at all, but I would have ordered the second I saw that promo video. Instead, I thought about it for a couple of days, showed it to a few people, and then ordered. I wish I had known just waiting a couple of days to order would mean getting it months later.
I’m actually finding it a lot harder to wait patiently-ish now that people are actually getting them.
I was thinking the same thing. I debated it for a week. If I had just pulled the trigger I’d probably gave mine already.
