Discussion of October 2017 update

No, this was a plan from the beginning. String us along with lies, followed by more lies from an unethical, lying, cheating, and incompetent mis-management team. Tech is not this hard if you have anyone with any character and morals. They hire people with experience that can do the hard things. So much easier to post lies every so often to keep us hoping they will deliver on their promises, so they can keep the money. The long promised Oct 30th turned to Jan 26th, and is already Feb 7th, which will slip countless times over the next 3-4 months, followed by 6 weeks of being in the ā€œShippingā€ stage. My bet? They never deliver.

You have attributed conditions to villainy that simply result from stupidity.

— Robert A. Heinlein, 1941

Let us not attribute to malice and cruelty what may be referred to less criminal motives.

— Jane West, 1812

… misunderstandings and neglect create more confusion in this world than trickery and malice. At any rate, the last two are certainly much less frequent.

— Goethe, 1774

My new shipping date at the time of the email was December 25. As this is a national holiday, I expected the date to be moved a bit. So, I wasn’t surprised to see today that it has been moved to the more workable date of Jan 1.

Wait, what?

That’s interesting. I ordered my basic unit on October 18th and my estimated delivery date just changed from Nov 9 to Dec 4. Not sure how that math works.

My date changed to Dec 18.

Well, that makes more sense. Thanks for the update!

Keep in mind that the ā€œshipping dateā€ estimate is for when they send you the ā€œDo you want your Glowforge?ā€ email. They can and do send those out on Federal holidays. I got mine on Labor Day.

ā€œI know for me… I am never doing another kickstarter/crowdfunded thing EVER again. I would expect I am not the only one that has been soured on this pre-funded sort of thingsā€

Amen brother. This was my first experience at crowd funding … and my last!

I don’t think I’ll do this sort of Kickstarter again. 3 years of frustration, paying off a credit card charge, and not knowing when, or if, I’ll get what I paid for isn’t worth the $1000 I saved over those who will purchase it when it hits the shelves. Or, again, if it hits the shelves.

I have done Kickstarters another, totally unrelated group. Four years running I have participated in their yearly Kickstarter, and they have never let me down. Well, except for the ā€œCastletonā€ T-Shirt they couldn’t get the rights to make, but that was no big deal, really.

Anyone who doubts this, hasn’t read the entire blog post Market first – Dan Shapiro from March 2014.

Thank you! Simple walnut countertop and speed rail, made carts out of casters, the leftover countertop and tie-off cleats.

Got the email today and followed the instructions, now it’s a different kind of waiting to see when the UPS notification shows up. Went and placed an order for extra proof grade materials, seems to have gone through ok.

Roy. Please stop spreading this misinformation like it’s some kind of conspiracy. It was discussed extensively up-thread, including you posting screen caps of the article.

@dan’s response, linked below should have put it to rest. Lots of commentary upstream about the Amazon ā€œworking backwardsā€ process as well.

I doubt I would ever do this kind of thing again. But… when everything is said and done, I will have saved 1000$ (not without some serious frustration), and I will have gotten 150$ in a proofgrade kit and another ~240-260$ in store credit to buy more materials. So, all in all I’m saving about 1400$ for the pains of being strung along. I guess that’s okay-ish. Plus, we got an extra 6mos of warranty, which honestly it should have never been less than a year to begin with.

In order to post to this forum, on must ā€œownā€ a Glowforge.

Roy, if you believe it is a scam, why not get your refund and go? I’m pretty negative right now because of the stringing along, and verbal about it, but your continued posting of that blog is more like troll behavior.

My continued posting about that article?

I never called it a scam, please don’t put words into my mouth.

I have said that GF has a historical trend of words in ways us common folk wouldn’t expect.

You seem to have a problem with Dan’s blog post, whatever words you choose to express it. You’ve brought it up at least twice previously that I have seen, and ignored when your concerns have been refuted, even by Dan himself.

Okay you didn’t call it a scam. Sorry. But seriously, as has been previously stated, there is no there there. Drop it.

Someone else found and posted the article, I commented on that post.

And more recently I used that link as supporting evidence for XDm5.25’s statement of ā€œthis was a plan from the beginningā€.

I’d hardly call that a ā€œproblemā€ or ā€œtrollingā€.

Mine says I’ll get my email tomorrow, but I think they are a few days behind what the shipping date says. I’m hoping I get my email before Tuesday the 31st, then the 3 week wait and final room prep can begin. Hopefully, I’ll have it play with over the Thanksgiving holiday.

I ordered a pro. I assume that since you purchased before me but your ā€œshippingā€ email is after mine you ordered a basic?

Not dropping it then. Okay.

Correct, basic order.
