Do you have to have a premium membership to use text?

I don’t have a premium membership and when I try to create something it doesn’t let me add a text box. How can I get a text box? I want to print simple little signs but don’t know how to add text?

Yes, the text button is part of Glowforge Premium.

To add text without it, write it in another program, save it as a file, then use the big (+) plus button in the Glowforge app to upload that file to your design.

You can use any program that can make an SVG or PDF file – Illustrator, Inkscape, Canva, even Word or PowerPoint.

^^^What he said^^^ With the additional notes that the text needs to be made into an object ( Path > Object to Path) or it won’t transfer. However you can drag and drop the SVG into the GFUI or supposedly copy and paste straight out of Inkscape though I have not been successful with that.

If you want to engrave text, you can create it in any word processing program, save as a pdf and open it in the Glowforge interface.
