Focus before printing and get an error

Optics are clean. Focused several times. Restarted the machine, re-focused, refreshed the .com, machine gives off error every time now.

Anyone?

What error?

Error window in the attached picture.

The hardware involved in focusing is the white ribbon cable, the print head, the red dot projector on the bottom of the print head, and the camera on the bottom of the print head. Start your troubleshooting by inspecting and cleaning those items. Look for creases or exposed copper along the length of the white ribbon cable. Unclip it from the print head, look for damaged pins or debris stuck in the connector, then securely reattach it. Clean the two glass windows on the bottom of the print head, then see if the problem persists. Also ensure your material is within the range that can be measured by the autofocus mechanism (from the height of the crumb tray at minimum and up to half an inch above that at maximum).

Done, and cleaning the two glass windows for the focusing system doesn’t work because the machine allows dust to get up under the lens. That portion of the lens is only accessible if I
dis-assemble the print head. Cable looks fine, dirty, though no breaks in the insulation. Focus in many different positions doesn’t work either. No other errors to post except for the current attached image. Refreshed the screen/site, several times.

Just to eliminate possibilities, do you get the same error if you try to run the Gift of Good Measure? Open a new tab/window and grab that from your library, then let us know.

Machine won’t get past focusing on the workpiece. In any instance the machine throws an error right after the head lands the red focus beam on the workpiece, head returns to home and error comes up. Not sporadic either, happens every time.

Anyone have a Glowforge library of QR codes and matching thickness for each code for the premium material?

Never mind. Using the preset focus for the GF materials and ignoring the error.

Getting rid of Glowforge as soon as I can.

We’ve been seeing that same error on manual focus a lot more recently.

It’s not a lens or “clean it” problem.

AFAICT, Glowforge did an update and changed where it focuses. The little red light is no longer in the center. Make sure the ENTIRE head is over the material that you are focusing on.

No longer an issue. I’m using all the prefocus selections from the top left menu. Cutting material works fine now. No, the head is not being used to focus. No, won’t pay for another $500+ head for this POS.

Thanks for all your help victims.
