Alignment always messes up. I have been dealing with this recurring issue for multiple years. It doesnt complete the recalibration because it errors, it doesnt set focus because it errors. Parts seem to always need replaced. You put in a ticket and it takes about a week to get any info because you have to wait a day or 2 for them to respond each time. You call the support line and wait on hold for 30 minutes just to leave a voicemail that is never returned.
Sorry that youâre having a rough time.
Your experience is not the same as mine, and I am sorry you are struggling. As you may know, Glowforge support no longer monitors this forum. If you want specific assistance from other owners and users, you will need to provide more complete information about your current problem.
Yeah I put in a ticket a couple days ago. Still waiting on the response. I am sure something is broke again. They have had to replace the machine multiple times.
That is not everyoneâs experience. Calibration takes a long time and you donât want a light (lamp or sun) shining on it when the machine is in process of calibration.
Mine is aligning very well and yours could alsoâŚ
It errors after it makes all of the glowforge symbols. It doesnt say why it just says it errored and to restart the machine. I have wasted about 10 boards on it over the past couple of days while I have been waiting for glowforge to contact me back.
If you put wide mask paper over a used board so it covers the board you can do so as many times as you need, It only needs a clean white area. I have used watercolor paper taped to a full-board-sized scrap through the holes made by the cutouts so it does not show on top.
After it has made all the symbols it when it actually starts calibrating. It can take as much as an hour after that
Thanks for the advice about reusing boards and yes it takes a long time to recalibrate. It used to work fine, but not anymore. I would assume its the same issue with the set focus, but you cannot actually see errors or logs so its hard to troubleshoot as an end user and you have to wait for Glowforge support which is not timely in response.
Even if you have to cover the top, make sure there is no light shining in, and make sure all the symbols are about the same darkness as, if they are not that is other issues.
Sorry for your issues.
Only ran lid camera calibration once, when it was introduced a few years back. Not sure what Glowforge symbols are, except for their logo.
Communication has always been an issue, but they want to make things right.
Not completing set focus and not completing calibration likely means that the head has a problem.
How do they compare to your other lasers?
Now day 3 and still no response from Glowforge on my ticket
This is a great point to make. There are so many errors that go into trouble shooting. It would be great to have more info.
And the delay in response is creates a bit of static that is not helpful at all.
Try to be patient. They are backed up right now in getting back to people.
Well its been 7 days and I got a (singular) reply telling me to do something I already told them I did in the ticket (make sure belts are tight). Its not that they are backed up now, its that they are always slow. You can reply to an email within the same minute and it will take them another 3 days or so to respond.
Thatâs how support systems work. Your reply goes back into the queue to be handled in sequence, so straight to the back of the line againâŚ
They are slowâŚno argument there, but in spite of what you may think, they are indeed, backed up right now. I was told that when I myself was needing some help and had waited over a week for a reply.
I am not saying they arent backed up right now, I am saying they are always âbacked upâ. One would think that they would have better support for a $4K plus machine that always breaks. I mean PlayStation has a better support system for their 100+ million active users. I always dreaded calling them for my kid and waiting an hour on hold, but I would take that in a heartbeat with Glowforge.
I would bet that if Glowforge had these kinds of numbers they too would be able to afford bigger and better support. But, they donâtâŚGlowforge is microscopic compared to Sony. This current âslow downâ is actually pretty recent. I feel I can say that with some credibilityâŚIâve been here for 6 years.
