Hi!
My glowforge has all of the sudden lost the ability to cut. Is this a glitch or a serious problem? It only engraves even though I have selected cut.

Welcome to the forum.
If your Glowforge will engrave it will probably cut. Can you please share a bit more information. What material are you trying to cut? What settings did you use? Can you share a screenshot of your file setup in the interface.
Hi! Just cutting out Christmas ornaments that I’ve cut several times. Using light basswood with provided settings. Haven’t ever had an issue with it before. I thought it may possibly be the design so I tried some of my other previously used files and all of them are engraving instead of cutting. I’ve cleaned my machine thoroughly twice. Which included camera lenses, rails and fan. Unplugged and plugged it. Restarted the program a few times. Don’t know what else to do. It is vented out my window. Do you have any other suggestions?
Engraving as in the head goes back and forth multiple times per inch or engraving in that the cut line is a single line that is shallow?
Please share a photo of an ornament that “engraved” when you had set it to cut.
Is this the 2nd or third person claiming this?
(Previously good cuts now engraving)
If legit(non-user error aforementioned actual engraving vs shallow cuts that don’t go through), potential bug in the system?
I don’t think we have enough info to determine if there is a problem with the system. I am pretty sure this is an individual problem.
Like I said, it does seem odd that this isn’t the first time this language has been used to describe an issue but I have often been accused of assuming people using words to mean what those words in said order mean. Or pedantic so….make of that what one will.
No surprise from here. My Aura stopped making clean cuts through 1/8 inch light basswood. I had to work with Glowforge several sessions before I got one technician to accept there really is a problem with the machine and said they would send me a replacement laser unit. That was nearly a month ago and I am still waiting to find out when they will send the part. It seems the part is out of stock. Does anyone know what is going with shortages of spare parts and how to get the part I need:
We are Glowforge owners just as you are, so know we can’t speak to the availability of parts.
Not ideal because you’ll have to pay for it, but you could check with Wiregrass to see if they have what you need. It sucks having to pay for something you should get free but at least you’ll be able to get back up & running. It all depends on what’s important to you.
