Glowforge suddenly reboots after powering on

#1

My unit reboots just after startup. This happens nearly every time I turn it on. After the quick reboot(which seems like a very sudden loss of power) it starts & calibrates without issue. This happens every day and has since just after receiving my unit. The only time it does not happen is if I’ve turned it off and back on again within a few hours or less. I’ve tried with & without a surge protector, etc. It makes no difference.
I’ve seen what seems to be the same issue posted by several others. Is there a fix in the works?

We’ll see what support says but I think this is considered a non-issue. Mine does it sometimes but it doesn’t affect anything.

#3

I wouldn’t be worried about it if every unit was doing this across the board, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I just want to be sure that it’s not symptomatic of an underlying issue that’s going to surface and cause problems later on.

To see if it is actually rebooting, or if it is just some other quirk, you can follow the directions here to get a copy of your logs.

It will download a ZIP file. Look inside there for a file named “current”.

Search for lines that look like this:

2018-03-27_12:57:51.22836 4 INFO: Boot flags: 00000001 power-on
2018-03-27_12:57:51.22837 4 INFO: Boot attempts: 1
2018-03-27_12:57:51.22838 4 INFO: Software resets: 0
2018-03-27_12:57:51.22838 4 INFO: Watchdog timeouts: 0
2018-03-27_12:57:51.22839 4 INFO: Times started since boot: 1
2018-03-27_12:57:51.22839 4 INFO: Abnormal terminations since boot: 0
2018-03-27_12:57:51.22840 4 INFO: Last termination exit code: 0

Two things to look for:

  1. Groups of those statements with very close timestamps (less than a minute or so apart).
  2. Something other than the ‘power-on’ boot flag, number of boot attempts, abnormal terminations, etc., as shown above.

If you see either/both of those two things, then you likely have an issue that support will need to address.

Thanks for letting us know about this, I see you already emailed us about this and we’re working on it there, so I’m going to close this topic.
