Ah, this is really nice.
strong glue joint
Suggestion for next time: offset each layer by a set amount, so the lasered joints never line up from layer to layer. That way the wood faces glue up and the lasered joints don’t need to be nearly so strong.
I use this technique to make strong layered boxes even with segmented individual layers. An example:
Tread lightly, we are OR-2 and OR-4, and we don’t allow just anyone to visit.

I wanted to do something a bit more literal instead of geometric abstractions so I dusted off an old design that I pulled from the web quite a while ago. I’d give attribution but this is one of those images that has been shared so many times that I just can’t be sure of its provenance. I modified it slightly to improve its symmetry and laserability, and here we are.

I decided to really go for it with inlaid edges. I was shooting for something that would just take the whole inlaid edge concept to its logical conclusion, and this is where I landed.
Notes:
I had to develop several techniques to deal with this. I actually failed to make this twice before I got a success, I had to refine my methods to get it right. I’ll talk about it in the main body.
