Hey Folks,
I am trying to cut out a word in cursive. I was able to figure out the Object to Path with the font so it shows up. But how do I keep the part of the letters that overlap from cutting out?

You need to union them. After converting to paths and outlines.
Thank you sir. Would you be able to provide more information on how to union them? Thanks.
Here are links to all the tutorials.
Here is one of the many topics that treats this.
Select two letters and place them where you want them joined then Path > Union
That worked. Thanks so much!
What program are you using? In Silhouette it’s called Welding. Basically you need to group them and then find the Union or Weld function in the particular program you’re using.
When setting up to cut out in inkscape I find it useful to have a fill color and reduce the outline to 0.1 mm or less enough to see but not enough to interfere with booleans. I sometimes find it useful to go to node editing for better cleaning if needed.
