How do I get my machine to cut an image?

I’m trying to get my machine to cut out the outline of an image but it keeps telling me it can only engrave a bitmap image. What do I need to do to convert the image to a file type that the machine will let me cut?

Convert the bitmap into a vector using your design app of choice, or - if you have a premium subscription - use the “outline” function in the UI.
