HUGE Nautilus Logo for Office at School

We’ve been working on “Steampunking” up our office at school, working with a nautical theme - inspired in part by Jules Verne.

I’ve been trying to find something to put above our door and one night I found this:

I think it’s from something Disney did at one time (a pin?), it was exactly what I was looking for. So I fired up Corel and started the vector machine.

It needed to be about 3ft wide to look right above the office, so i knew it was going to be done in several smaller parts. It ended up being about 5 layers deep, each layer a bunch of pieces that were glued together.

Once it was done on the laser, I started to glue things up and fill cracks, etc

Then a bunch of primer:

Some gold paint (forget to take that pic)

And then some light aging:

Then we hung her:

The portholes and gable pieces were also done on the glowforge.

I’m pretty happy how it turned out… Now onto the next door!

Thanks, we’re just part of a great school. We are the computer dept.

We’re really fortunate =)

I can’t wait to see it. Do you think you could put together a virtual tour of your office? All those details in the background are just waiting to be shown off.

Thanks for all the kind words, I’ll try to get some more pics up. It is a functional school office for four of us, but we try to add cool stuff where we can.

I like the nautilus ideas, for now this is the other sign, but I’m going to find a spot for other stuff too.
