My GF arrived last week, and this is the first complex project I’ve tried. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with the results!
It’s a recreation of a plaque from around 2000 BCE, from ancient Mesopotamia, of the face of the monster Humbaba who appears in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
He needs some tweaking; I think the piece is too thick, and I need to lower the height of the eyebrows. I also want to make an acrylic stand for display, but I haven’t started working on the design yet.

Wow, very nice! Try using card stock in your layers, you will be able to build up lesser elevations a bit better.

Just Inkscape. I made the library first, then spent (too many) hours trying to work out how I wanted to slice it for the layers.
