I am not sure if this is the correct place for this. When I export an SVG file from Adobe Illustrator and then open in the Glowforge webspace, the size is smaller than what I had open in Illustrator. I am not sure how to adjust that. I am assuming there is something I need to chance in Illustrator but I am not sure. For instance, if I created something in Illustrator and it is 7 inches wide in Illustrator, it opens in Glowforge at 5.25 inches. Any help is greatly appreciated as I cannot figure it out.
It’s an import/export setting. You can search it on here - let me see if I can find it (sadly I don’t use Illustrator so I can’t just take a screenshot of my settings!)
Ok so easiest (and what I use) is to set your workspace to 20x12, which the Glowforge will see and correctly interpret even if AI changes it in the future.
2nd is to use .pdf, which AI doesn’t change the export settings to so it should stay.
The last one I saw is this:
Check your settings compared to their screenshot, and make sure your decimal places are set to 3 digits.
every once in a while, an adobe update to illustrator will reset that toggle, too. so keep that in mind.
fwiw, i was on a conference call with a bunch of enterprise users and some of the adobe illustrator devs and brought the issue up, so they know it’s happening (and i wasn’t the only GF user on that call, my buddy kevin chimed in to agree with me).
Try saving as a PDF instead. I use Illustrator for designing dollhouse kits and miniature furniture and have never had any issue. I always save my files as PDF instead of SVG.
I have had the same problem with my setup, but not consistently. It seems to matter whether I’m modifying an exported SVG in AI or creating from scratch. When I see the issue I just scale the glowforge design by 4/3rds (* 1.3333333) and that corrects the dimensions.
