Welcome to the community @Rita ! It was great meeting you (and the rest of the team, and a bunch of other great people) today at the Bay Area Maker Faire!
It was a pleasure meeting you, along with everyone else, at Maker Faire this weekend!
Random-ish side note:
I guessed my own username wrong at the booth. My second guess was also wrong. (I can see the correct one reflected above.)
Thatās what I get for lurking!

speak up more weāre a friendly bunch, and I donāt think there is someone here I havenāt learned something from or been in awe of their abilities, so far.
Congratulations!
Welcomeā¦ My first question is, Why is the GF equipped with a sealed laser and not a water cooled?
It is water cooled. Just a sealed system inside the unit, with a very small internal reservoir, and circulating water pump.
edit: Not 100% water, but some liquid that hasnāt been revealed.
It is water(?) cooled, itās just a closed self contained system. There is a heat exchanger that is cooled by the exhaust airflow. The exact nature of the coolant hasnāt been revealed.
One of the innovations that sets the 'forge apart. No separate bucket of water and pump to dance with, which makes it that much more portable and user friendly.
Because of that, the machineās duty cycle is affected by the ambient temperature the laser operates in.
Funny that we typed the words āhasnāt been revealedā at the exact same time.
I was beaten too this while looking for @danās āhaikuā.
Awww, the quote didnāt separate out the lines.
Glowforge is cooled by pure liquid magic!
@mr_jene55, thanks for asking. As noted, it is in fact liquid cooled. āSealedā indicates that, unlike some lasers, you donāt need an external refrigeration unit (or bucket of ice water). It takes care of its own cooling.
The blood of unicorns, probably.
Maybe itās Cool Aidā¦
OH YEAH!
Probably Berry Blueāitās the koolest flavor.
Yours is much more polite than what I was thinking from unicorns!
I can only imagineā¦
The coolant is very likely something like this (which just happens to be BLUE )
