I just knocked one of these out for fun based on someone’s share elsewhere. I plan to make another but this time paint the wood gold first, and use a heavier engrave for contrast.
This one is scaled for 1/16" ply (closer to 2mm actually) I have and less than 40mm/cubed, but you could easily scale it up (which I intend to do, I just wanted to make a small one to see how it looked), just adjust for the thickness of each part.
Actually, no. I created the one I posted from scratch (using artwork I found online) inspired by an alphabet cube someone shared that reminded me of it. I’d not seen that other one before.
That looks fantastic! I have a file somewhere for a puzzle box with this engraving pattern… not in the catalog for obvious reasons (see the mimic thread).
The edges are far from perfect but these are just test pieces. When I commit to the finished piece - most likely Walnut - I will make them a perfect fit so they aren’t visible. The design lends itself to having a thin, dark border.
My daughter is pretty sharp, but she hasn’t figured out what it is yet. (I gave her the 2nd one this afternoon at a casual get-together)…
