Learning to make tools for my wood shop

I am continually impressed with the precision of the glowforge, and how it allows me to solve problems in my shop without having to buy a commercial tool. Not only that, but it has allowed me to start selling my own tools in a Etsy store that other people are using. My only wish it that we could get bulk acrylic discounts now.

Here are a few tools I’ve made. There is a corner hole drilling jig, router plate for a router table, and some parallel guides for use with my track saw.

What are those made of? Delrin?

I think that would be the optimal material, but acrylic would function. Really cool practical application. :sunglasses: Particularly the ability to include your logo.

Those are inspiring. I need to make a set for my track saw! Nice work.

All very nice! The corner drill guide is one I have not thought of.
If you don’t mind, how are you inking your gradations?

Hmm… I hadn’t even thought of making things with scales on them. duh. nice work!

I did make a pattern to correctly size the new posts for my security fence. turns out the cross pieces on the “current” fence sections, are 1/16" narrower than the cross pieces on my old fence. GRRR so I have to take that much off with a burr grinder.

I would guess black acrylic paint. That’s what I normally use for this kind of thing and it works great.

I was using a basic craft paint my wife had on hand. I’ll have to try the acrylic paint.

I have not used that before. Acrylic was my go to. But I’ll check this stuff out. Thx.

Thanks. They are fun projects for sure.

That may very well have been acrylic paint. Many craft paints (sold at Michaels and other craft stores) are acrylic-based.

OK every one, Torg is very wealthy - he has a Festool track saw! Nice guides you are making & I love the logo you put on them. I love my Glowforge for making tedious little things like router templates. Super accurate and fast.

Haha! I gotta say. I just bought it recently for a project and I’m very impressed. I was not sure the cost to happiness ratio was going to be there. But it is great.

I was taking a shot in the dark there but I was pretty sure that was Festool green. I sometimes go to my local exotic wood supplier and drool on the display of Festools that he has. I appreciate very nice tools and have always been drawn to their stuff. I have a Fein cordless drill that I will not part with, so I get it. Most of my stuff is Makita, which is great too.

Lol!!! I will send you a Festool track saw if you send me your GlowForge!!! Lol!!! You are rich too!!!

And I define “Rich” as being able to make things!!! @Dan made us all Rich!!!

No deal, a Festool tracksaw can cut straight lines very well, and longer than 19" BUT it cannot do magic things!

I am also “Rich” in the ways you describe. Family & friends also.

I haven’t had mine out of its storage box in years. I did set it up so it’s all dialed in but I keep forgetting about it & grab a Ryobi battery saw with a clamping track instead. The freedom from a cord is super.

I figure the track saw will end up going to one of my kids nearly unused

Excellent practical cut. Using one tool to enhance another tool.

Yeah modern battery tools are great but my Dewalt just can’t touch what I can do with the Kreg tracksaw when I need exact. I end up using both.
