I found these a long time ago ( 10+years) as an item someone made for a cosplay. They had said they would make a pattern but never posted it and since they have dropped off the face of the earth. Was thinking I could possibly make something similar with my own aesthetic but wasn’t sure how to design the shape. If anyone has any suggestions for this please send them my way.
This isn’t exactly the same shape, but it gets you a lot closer to the family (and it’s already made so I can help now)
Thanks! It’s a start! I’m having issues wrapping my mind around the shape for some reason so this helps
Hands are really oddly laid out - which you don’t think about until you’re trying to pattern them on something flat!
I think what I’m going to end up doing is taking an old sheet that I’ve been using for scrap, cutting it up more or less to the shape of my hand and then adding accessories as desired
Felt and craft foam are good analogs for leather patterning.
Why not just find a pattern for a fingerless glove and modify it?
I’ll think about it, for now, I’ll keep working the fabric I started
Yeah, I’d just grab an old pair of gloves and cut off the fingers and trim it to the shape before slicing the inside seam to get the flat pattern.
A Thing cosplayers sometimes do is wrap a body part in plastic wrap, cover that with tape (often duct or gaffer), draw the outlines of the edges of the item, then carefully cut it off (ideally along a seam or edge line, often with surgical scissors to avoid hurting themselves). Then, they flatten that and/or cut it into pieces that would be flat to make a pattern. You might need help doing that to your own hand but, that might be a way to create your own pattern from scratch. That shows up in cosplay YT videos regularly, if you need more visual explanation.
Now that’s an idea!
Do a search for “duct tape dummy” to see how-tos
That’s exactly what I was looking at actually
Buy a cheap pair of bicycling gloves that fit you. This way, the ‘pattern’ will already be padded to match the thickness of the leather you will use…well, at least on the palm.
