I wanted to make an inlaid box with a secret. Instead of writing it up like I usually do, I’ll just let the pictures do the bulk of the talking.
Materials used:
1/8" maple and purpleheart hardwoods
1/16" yellowheart and padauk hardwoods
1/16" brass rod, headliner fabric .

The trick:
The lid is a maze, you have to solve the maze by twisting the lid and guiding the three tabs along the correct path. I designed it to be “oh cool” difficulty, not “I’m going to throw this thing” difficulty. Fun project.

Very well done. Did you sand the burn off or use the Clorox wipe trick?

I sanded it off, the clorox wipe (or any type of wiping) will not solve the surface imperfections problem, and my goal here was to have a completely smooth outside that is nice in the hand.
Besides, wiping doesn’t get the surface remotely clean enough for my tastes.

The box is super fun! A minotaur paired with a maze…perfect.

It started with the maze idea, and I was thinking I should probably make it decorative in some way… the Minotaur came to mind almost immediately.
