Does anyone know of a good tutorial to show how to create a wood ornament with the name cut out on the inside?

Not really, but there are lots of discussions about cutting out text and joining shapes.
Building an ornament like that is pretty trivial once you know how to do the fundamentals of those skills. I’d suggest searching the forum all about whatever vector program you’re using. like “inkscape text” or “illustrator text”.
Thanks! I have the ornament built just not sure to do the inside word cutout.

marthajackson1970:
Maybe this will help
Not a bad tutorial, I mean there are lots of ways to do it, I prefer stroke to path for the ring, etc, but this isn’t bad. +1 google skills point to @marthajackson1970

What do you mean “stroke to path method”?
@Jules did a tutorial a while back that might help:
(Yes, thank you Discourse, I know the title is similar to the titles for AI and AD.)
Open the software and select your font, type out the name:

Select everything, click on Path > Object to Path.
[ink2]
Select everything, right click and Ungroup. (Might also require Path> Break apart.) Resize or shift the letters over so that they overlap at some point.
Select everything, click on Path > Union.
[ink3]
If you want to add a small hanging ring, draw up a couple of Fi…

Searching for “stroke to path” in the forum…
And a very direct explanation of this very situation:
“expand the lines” in Inkscape is Path->stroke to path.
Basically, make your circle, then set the line width to however thick you wanted the engraved area to be. Then go to Path->stroke to path, it’ll turn your circle into a “donut”, meaning a filled ring, waiting to be engraved.
This is similar to what you would have done with the text when you did “object to path” to convert the letters to filled shapes.

Are you using Inkscape? Type your text, object to path, combine, union, difference.
