I am a fairly new GF owner. I have tried with no luck etching on metal. Is this possible?
No. You can’t directly etch on metal. Aluminum needs to be anodized or painted. You can use Cermark or some type of metal marking solution.
titanium seems to be the exception.

It has been reported you can etch stainless steel to some extent. That is because it has a very poor thermal conductivity compared to other common metals. IIRC about 17W/m K where copper is 400, Aluminium 200 and glass 1, plastic 0.2.
