I found using the etching for the fine details added a lot to my leaf.

On our property we have an abundance of White Oak, Scarlet Oak, Chestnut Oak and Red Oak, or as I like to say… firewood.

Here in southern California Iʻm used to most of our oaks having oval leaves with serrated (or even spiny) edges. The scrub oaks (such as Quercus dumosa or Quercus berberidifolia) and live oaks (e.g., Quercus agrifolia or Quercus chrysolepis) tend to have leaves like this, as do many of our other oaks. Some higher elevation species have more of what most people think of as oak-shaped leaves, and a lot of northern California oaks (e.g., Quercus garryana) have the classic lobed oak leaf. We have 20 species of oaks in the state, so thereʻs quite a bit of variety.

That’s the sort of look I was initially going for, but I was never happy with it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I learn so much on this forum!
