Off Topic: what makes you famous?

Inventables has a tutorial section like that. It’s pretty cool

She was in Austin '98-'03 but knows a lot of people that are still there. You two no doubt know a lot of the same people. Small world!

That’s a great point - something we’ll have to think about for the hopper (cc @bailey @Tony).

OH I just remembered a famous person encounter (true story) Once in OKC I stood using a urinal next to James Garner !! I did not talk to him or shake his hand then however… . But out in the hall I did talk to him and got an autograph (was very nice guy in person!)

Back in the day, I bought a Commodore 64. I talked my wife into letting me buying it by telling her I would find a way to make it pay for itself.
This is the result: I created a spreadsheet program and got it published in RUN magazine. I think they paid me $850 so mission accomplished. What I did not expect was that I received hundreds of letters from all over the world after the article came out asking for help, modifications, suggestion, etc. It took me more time to answer the letters than it did to write the program and the article.

When I was in University I forgot that I signed up for a team charity run because I had a big class presentation beforehand…I didn’t want to let my team down I ended up doing the “run” - in my stilettos, pencil skirt and a Starbucks in hand. I raised $5000 from random strangers and I was known as “The little girl who did the run in style”

Ah man I totally forgot one of the best ones.

We threw a huge party in a Hangar at NASA Ames a couple of years in a row. Yuris Night Bay Area 2007 and 2008 - aka World Space Party!

A good friend of mine started a job at ames and we were joking how cool it would be to throw a party in the massive zeppelin hangar they have there. We figured it wouldnt hurt to ask, and to our surprise they said yes! (ended up being in the hangar beside it). With the help of a ton of cool people and some amazing sponsors it ended up happening. It was so amazing they wanted us to do it again. So we did…

An event for great music, artistry, tech showcasing, and some great speakers. We had Anousheh Ansari come out to speak (first privately funded woman in space… .from Iran no less, and also the person who the Ansari X-prize was named after). The head of NASA even came out in a wizards robe. Tons of great musicians, plaid, tycho, Woz came the next year. The list goes on, but it was pretty epic.

They are still holding them yearly, This year its in april, about a month and a half from now. If youre in the area check it out!
