Offline, no matter what I do cant get online

Can’t get online!! Been going around with GF for two weeks with no success. Never experienced this issue before. Nothing has changes at my end network, or computer wise.
Suggestions?

We can try to help, but you’ll definitely have to provide more details.

Were you connected before?
Did your ISP “upgrade” you system to auto-switch the network to faster (and therefore not 2.4G) channels?
Have you gone through the teal set up successfully? Ever?

Walk us through what you’ve done and we may be able to help

Offline statuses can often indicate the printer is connecting to the network, but is failing to maintain a stable connection. The information requests and questions that @deirdrebeth mentioned will help get this sorted out so you can print. I’m including the Wi-Fi setups below for easier reference:

  1. Power up: Turn your Glowforge off. Then turn on your Glowforge and wait about 30 seconds.
  2. Start Wi-Fi setup: Hold down the button on your Glowforge for ten seconds, until it glows with a teal color.
  3. Sign in: Using a Wi-Fi device like your laptop or tablet, go to setup.glowforge.com and sign in.
  4. Connect your Glowforge to Wi-Fi: Go to setup.glowforge.com and follow the steps to connect to Wi-Fi. If you run into trouble along the way, let us know what happened right before the issue arose.

To see the Wi-Fi setup process in more detail, go to Connect Your Glowforge to WiFi or watch a video that demonstrates Wi-Fi setup here.

You can also take a screenshot of any specific step(s) that fail and include that in your response.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, all was well for 18 months, no problems at all. I did not use the laser for about 6 weeks, and when I attempted to print, I got a constant “offline” indication. I worked with GF Tech support yesterday, and the machine was given a clean bill of health. It appears my computer is not communicating with the GF… calling my ISP now. Any additional thoughts?
Thank you

I’d take odds that they “upgraded” your system to attach to the “best” channel, which just happens to always be a 5G channel, rather than a 2.4G that the Glowforge can see. If you know how to log into your router you may be able to fix it yourself, but it’d be better to get them to turn that “improvement” off.

If it’s not that, I know someone here got an AppleTV that killed their connection. Any new electronics in the house?

I would also check with your ISP to create a channel with your router or modem for IoT devices. I have my router set up with a separate 2.4 GHz channel for my smart home devices and my Glowforge printers.

Brandon,
Thanks for your response. Was on the phone with my ISP for nearly an hour. They stated that “Ban steering” is turned off for my 2.4 and 5G frequencies… Does that make any sense to you?
Bottom line, they claim to be good, BUT i still cant’ communicate with them my laser!!!

Thanks for your response… Spent nearly an hour on the phone with my ISP. They claim “ban steering” is turned off for both my 2.4 and 5G frequencies. If I’m reading you correctly, that could be the problem? I needed to be “slaved” to the 2.4 only??

Thank you…
John

Band steering being off should mean it’s not redirecting.
Do you know how to log into your router? If no, do you know what kind it is?

Have no idea how to log into the router. Thought that was something only your ISP could do? It’s an ARRIS
router.

Presuming nothing’s been changed you can login by using a web browser and going to the router’s home. The URL will be either: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (just that, no www or http or anything). Once you see a login screen, the default credentials are: admin/password.

There’s a bunch more info here: Arris Router Login: Default Name, Password & IP Address

Once you’re in you should be able to verify that one of your networks is 2.4G, and if it’s not - to change it.

When all else fails, try using your phone as a hotspot and getting the Glowforge online that way. If you can successfully connect with the hotspot, the problem is your wifi and not the Glowforge.
