I just got my glowforge and want to cut out/score a design for a tshirt. I used my inkjet printer to print a design onto the Eco iron on paper so I only need to go around the edges of the design and a couple of spots inside. In the print app though, the trace option is grabbing all the liked and not just the outer lines. Any help on how to do this world be greatly appreciated!
Welcome to the forum.
If you haven’t already done so, I urge you to work through the Glowforge tutorials to become familiar with the interface. The design you sent to your inkjet printer could probably be opened in the Glowforge app rather than printing onto the iron on paper. How was your design created?
Thanks for replying! I do intend on going through the tutorials in more depth, unfortunately time isn’t on my side for this specific project. I also suspect that my request is unique enough that it won’t be covered directly in the tutorial (I would love to be proved wrong though, lol). The design is a picture, and I used the inkjet printer first because it has several colors, and it’s too complex to try and layer. I considered monochrome, but some of the elements are hard to distinguish and it looks confusing in those spots.
And of course, right after I posted the above, I went back to Print and see a “create outline” button that was not obvious when I was going through my phone’s web browser… facepalm
Now I just need to play with the tools some more to figure out how to custom cut lines in the middle of the image and I’ll be set. Thank you again for replying though!
Just wondering: Are you using eco-solvent printable HTV made for inkjet printers?
I haven’t done this with my Glowforge before so I’m curious.
No, I tried printing onto the regular Eco iron on (I had to cut it into a smaller size to fit into the printer), however I realized after this post that the ink didn’t go all the way through and was only on the surface of the iron on. When it’s flipped and ironed into the shirt it’s only the white showing
Oh yeah if you want to print a photo on a shirt using iron on material, look for printable htv (they do make some for inkjet printers) just make sure it’s safe for the glowforge if you are using the glowforge to cut it.
Otherwise think of the iron on as like cutting paper and layering it on a card - you can make one solid color for the design, or you can cut out parts from different colors and piece them together or layer them (if the material is layerable).
There are so many different products out there, you just have to find the right one for the job.
Amazon has some eco solvent printable htv for inkjet printers though. I did not research if it’s safe for the glowforge though, so you need to be sure to check that part out before buying.
I hope you can find what works for your project!
