Photo engrave turned masking into gloppy mess

After finally getting the file to cut, the engrave area turned the masking on this ! acrylic to a gloppy mess (which was very hard to get off as it was almost in a liquid state)

Would multiple passes at a lower power work better, allowing it to cool down more?

This is why I have been advocating for removing the mask for photo engravings.

You aren’t supposed to forge underwater.

I remove the masking when I photo engrave acrylic, same issue you see here. A gloopy residue is left otherwise.
