I decided it had been a while since I’d tried a 3D engrave, and last time hadn’t gone super well, but that was over a year ago. So I found one of the many 3D depth maps out there and resamples it to 450doi and 5x5”. This Is inventables 1/2” solid maple. Cleaned with Zep orange hand cleaner and a toothbrush
Cleaning technique is to slather it on so that everything is well covered and it is down in all the nooks and crannies. Let it sit for a minute or two and the start scrubbing with the toothbrush (this is an oral-b electric disposable) which does a nice job in getting inside delicate parts so you don’t have to make big scrubbing motions. Then wash off the cleaner (which has turned dark brown at this point) until the water runs clear. Then let I air dry on a towel after patting down overnight.
This is why cleaning afterwards is so important. Extremely well done! I’ve got an idea for something that requires some intense cleaning afterwards and I feel better knowing it can be done.
Mine’s not disposable, but I did something to the internal balance so now it’s got a wobble in it. Not safe for my mouth, but will be great for engrave cleaning. @henryhbk, thank you for the inspiration.
There is a regular aaa inside. It is funny to worry about, as we are talking about taking a block of wood and essentially just for fun, turn it into CO2…
There is help on the horizon as folks are making plastic from seaweed, oil from algae, and leather from fungus, With effort the main sources today will go the way of all the technology dependent on whale oil.
