I’ve noticed some issues with some of the “Premium artwork” files I’ve been trying to use. Some have ‘phantom’ shapes that show up in cuts and engravings (like a circle in the middle of a design that isn’t visible in the thumbnail image). Is there any way to fix these issues at all? Or is there any word on if there will ever be an option to alter premium designs in any way?
I have already tried using the ‘outline’ tool and sometimes it fixes the issues and sometimes it doesn’t due to the design of the image.
You can alter designs by exporting them from the workspace and editing in a design app.
The artwork isn’t “made by Glowforge”, it’s just from the millions available on the Noun project - so they have no control over which designs will work 100% of the time.
Would you mind telling how to “export” them?
Thank you!
Nevermind, I think I found out.
I’m so sorry to hear that you are experiencing a snag with specific “Noun” shapes inside of the Glowforge App. I appreciate you sending over these details, and I’m glad to hear that @eflyguy was able to provide some good next steps.
I’d like to make sure this does not continue to occur, and see if we can resolve the snag. Would it be possible to obtain a list of “Noun” designs you noticed this behavior with?
I’d love to send over a list of any that I come across but I’m not sure how I can do so since they don’t have names associated with them, to my knowledge. How would you propose I identify them? And what type of issues would you like to know about? I have found images with open paths and others with phantom ‘shapes’ within them.
Thank you for following up with my colleague Marc.
That’s an excellent call out in regards to the lack of names.
As an alternative, could you provide screenshots of the designs you come across that are causing trouble?
Thanks for the reply jeremyh.
I’d be happy to provide screenshots as I come across them. Though, what parameters of issues would you like me to include.
For example: do you only want those images that have ‘phantom shapes’ or do you also want any images I find that have open paths as well, and etc.
I’m not sure if images with ‘open paths’ are considered an issue for everyone.
I had a difficult time finding the specific image but here is the version of the fixed image I had to work on yesterday. For me, the ‘snowflakes’ had a perfect circle (like a phantom shape) that was also being cut out. I tried in two different ‘projects’ to make sure it wasn’t something I accidentally added. I attached my test cut so you can see what I mean by ‘phantom shape’.
And here is an example of an object with open paths both in ‘engrave’ and ‘cut’ representations:

Thank you for the screenshots and for bringing this to our attention. I’ve made our team aware of this so that they can investigate further.
I’m going to close this thread. If you run into trouble again, or have other questions, please post a new topic here on the forum or email us at support@glowforg.com and we’ll be happy to help.
