is there a reason the print area is so much smaller than the 12 x 20 sheets they sell? It makes it hard to preserve usable material when starting on a new sheet and not shift it into the way of the carriage movement.
The actual print area is 10.9" x 19.5", so really not that much smaller than the Proofgrade sheets. You can open the front door rather than lifting the lid to slide in new sheets if you are worried about bumping the printhead.
Put the material in the front right hand corner and you’ll get the most of it, then save the extra for when you’re cutting something small
Given the alternatives, given the choices, I would rather have the capability bigger than the cut area than smaller or the exact size, and it costs nothing to make the area symmetrical rather than have the space needed for the head not allow any material to go there.
When buying 4’x8’ plywood for my pro I cut out 5-48"x19" sheets so I do not have any waste, but I can use 10" x 10.9" for part of the design, and then rotate the material and get another 12"x10" for the rest if I am really careful.
There are other ways to maximize the size of what you can make - like breaking a shape up into two pieces and then piecing them together.
