A section of a 
cherry hardwood was much thinner than the rest of it (also, parts of the board had no finish on one of the sides). I didn’t quite notice until I cut pieces out of it.
See this picture taken on edge of two pieces cut from this piece of hardwood.
Here’s measurements. The 3.something mm is pretty much exactly 1/8".
