Protecting veneer for outside use

I had to put down a very loved cat last week and ordered a stone winged statue to put on his grave in our back yard. I want to put a veneer strip with his name and life span on the statue. Is there a way to protect the veneer against weather? And is the glue on the veneer sufficient for permanent adhesion? Thanks for any help.

I had water-based polyurethane last for many years exposed to the elements. It’s cheap – polyacrylic – from the hardware store.

It’s actually a water-based acrylic in suspension, so think of it like plastic. It’s exactly that.

Thanks, #eflyguy. I have a Sutherlands Home Base 1/2 a mile from my house so I’ll be I’ll be picking some up today. Appreciate the tip.

And thanks for the kind condolences. They’re also very much appreciated.
