I have been successfully cutting coated cordura on my pro for a couple of years. Today I cut what I believed to be the same but the smell was totally different. Turns out it was mislabeled PVC coated nylon. I didn’t cut much (+\- 40 second file). I’m wondering if I should be concerned about the health of my machine and/or any reactive maintenance I should perform. Thanks in advance.
The best I can think of is to simply open the lid and vent it - blow a fan on it - for as long as possible.
inspect your optics, if you can
The two answers above and watch for corrosion over the next few weeks mostly along the exhaust route.
You may have dodged a bullet, let’s hope.
This is one of the few times someone was able to recover from bad damage. You can look at the photos and compare to yours or to see what you’re looking for. Also note the sludge on his board stung when they touched it so that’s an indicator!
Wow.. I don’t often click on necro-threads, but I just had a good laugh reading back thru that one!
In the years since that saga unfolded, I have come to learn a new phrase - “common sense became uncommon sense”..
Yeah, at least this case of PVC in the laser was unexpected rather than deliberate. I’ve had similar things happen (luckily not with PVC but other changes in a material that I wouldn’t know between batches)
