Resin Filled Mythical Animals

The entire shape is engraved in. Leaving a void in the shape of the design. I leave the paper on the untouched surface areas. Dribble in the resin slowly to avoid too much overflow, then remove the paper when it’s halfway set. Otherwise the paper gets glued down permanently.

Depends on the type of resin. You want something pretty thick to start with. More of a Doming (high surface tension) resin rather than a self-leveling resin.

Alternatively you could give it a quick spray with some sealer like lacquer or polyurethane. Then do your resin pour.

Beautiful. Gotta try that!

Gotcha, thanks!

And the part where you engrave, does it literally burn away the paper/tape?

One thing I really like is that vectors can be engraved or scored, If you first score the engrave area with the material well locked in place you can then remove the masking from the engrave area only,

Ah, okay, I get it now! Makes sense. Thanks!

Did the resin lose its gloss after sanding? If so, is there a way to recover that gloss?

Sand it down to fine grit (at least 4 to 6 hundred grit) and then polish with a clear coat, looks nice and shiny after.

Very cool!!
