Right side not cutting enough!

Hi there!

I am noticing that whenever I cut towards the right side of the glowforge it doesn’t cut good enough, is there any reason or known issue about this ? Any suggestions on what to do?

It engraves perfect but when it is going to cut it doesn’t go deep ( only in the right side ).

I appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance!

The first thing to check is that all of the optics are clean. Make sure that the window inside on the left side of the machine has no smoke haze. Make sure that there is no fingerprint on the printhead side window. Obviously, the lens and mirror also must be clean. Also, make sure that the material is held flat against the honeycomb tray.

If your optics and fans are clean and you are still having trouble, print the Gift of Good Measure on proofgrade material using proofgrade settings on the area of the bed that isn’t cutting well. Post photos (front and back) along with the date and time of the print so that Support can quickly check your machine logs for that print.

What @dklgood said - the lower right side is the farthest the laser has to be thrown so it’s the first to go when the optics get dirty!

@CRAFL I am so sorry your Glowforge printer is not cutting through on right side. I also want to apologize for the long delay in my response to your email. This is not the experience we want our customers to have but I can definitely assist in resolving this with you.

Could you take a photo of the most recent print that did not cut through on the right side, front and back? Please let me know what date and rough time the print was completed.

I’d like to have you print the Gift of Good Measure on Proofgrade material on the left and right side. This uses known settings and on known material which will provide me a good baseline on how your Glowforge printer is performing. I’ve included some instructions below.

Could you please do the following?

  1. Turn off your Glowforge, then turn it back on

  2. We included an extra piece of Proofgrade Draftboard with your materials shipment for troubleshooting. Place Proofgrade Draftboard in the bed and load the Gift of Good Measure design.

  3. Set the score and engrave steps to ‘ignore.’ Print the Gift of Good measure using the default settings. Allow the print to finish.

  4. When the print finishes, leave the lid closed and wait until the fans stop and the picture of the bed updates.

  5. Check the completed print:

    • If the Gift of Good Measure fails to cut, please let us know the date and time of the print

    • If the Gift of Good Measure cuts successfully, please try another print of the design you saw the issue with, and let us know the results.

  6. If the issue still occurs, please let us know the date and time of the finished print.

Hello. I have the same problem with my glowforge. It doesn’t cut well. I bought it, just because it was a good promotion about cutting leather in YouTube. But sadly it’s not true. I using expensive Italian of French leather to make my leather goods, but it’s burning every time when I try to cut.

Posting on someone else’s post doesn’t actually help - you’ll need to create your own post in P&S to get help.

I cut leather almost daily and it works beautifully, so if you’re machine is having issues you should definitely have a staff member look into it!

Hello Cralf.
I didn’t know where should I send my message to explain my problem. But anyway thank you for your answer.
If it possible help me to fix my mistakes. Thank you so much.

If you scroll to the top of the page, and click on Problems and Support, then on the right side of the page that opens it says +New Topic. Click on that.
Then write in an explanation of what your machine isn’t doing, and what you’ve tried.
You should also cut the Gift of Good Measure (it’s in your dashboard) on a piece of PG material and post the time you did that, as well as photos of the front and the back.
If your machine is only having issues in a specific spot, make sure to cut it in that spot.
