Is anyone else having scorch lines and burning on their leather projects? how do I fix this?
Are you using masking?
Welcome to the forum.
Are you using proofgrade leather with proofgrade settings? If your cuts are not turning out as you wish you need to adjust your settings and experiment with the material until you get the desired results. Maybe you could share a photo of what you consider scorch lines and burning.
Hi @miranda.paul1989. I’m sorry to hear that you’re running into some scorching on recent prints using leather. I’m happy to see you’ve received some advice from @dklgood, and I’ll be happy to help with troubleshooting this.
First, with any photos of recently affected prints, can you include the date and approximate time the print attempt was run? We can use that as we review the log files from your Glowforge. Along with that, can you confirm if you’re noticing the issues on any Proofgrade leather as well? That can help isolate any potential causes and get the best next steps to assist with any print result trouble.
Next, there are several things that need to be checked if the laser doesn’t cleanly cut through the material. We’ve discovered that photos don’t always come through well in emails, so I’ve included several links that will take you to reference instructions and photos. Please turn off your Glowforge and check the following:
- The crumb tray is clean and properly installed
- The material is perfectly flat on the crumb tray. Be aware that this can include textured surfaces of material that is not completely flat. Curves or curls with leather can require the material to be pinned down as an added check before printing.
- All optical components are clean and undamaged
- Design is set to “Cut”
Also, if you’re noticing any similar trouble with material other than leather, can you do the following?
-
Print the Gift of Good Measure on Proofgrade material, using Proofgrade settings. Proofgrade Medium Draftboard can work well for this test print.
-
When the print finishes, leave the lid closed and wait until the fans stop and the picture updates.
Check the completed print:
- If the Gift of Good Measure fails to cut through, take a photo of the front and back of the print and attach these photos to your reply.
Hi @miranda.paul1989. It’s been a couple days since my last response, and I wanted to check in and see if you were still running into any prints using leather. Feel free to complete any of the checks and test print and we’ll be happy to review everything. Thank you!
Hi @miranda.paul1989. I haven’t seen any recent activity in this thread, so I’ll go ahead and close it. Feel free to start a new thread, or write us at support@glowforge.com, and we’ll be here to help if needed. Thanks!
