I am wanting to make the skeleton earrings that were just put into the Design Catalog but when I make them it engraves the bones so they end up being the black part instead of the background. Does anyone know how I can get them to look like the picture in the catalog?
The picture in the catalog looks like it’s white acrylic…it might be the two layer acrylic that is topped with black, so the image would engrave white.
Besides using the same material, the other options i can think of requires extra work, like using the stamp maker in the interface and match it up with the original cutlines, that would engrave more than what you need, but you could cut off the excess, like this and paint the engraves black, then remove the masking:
You’d ungroup the original design, then regroup the two cut holes.
The other option i can think of is turning the engraves to cuts on something like the thin black acrylic, or maybe veneer with the 3m backing, then placing it on a white acrylic cutout of the shape.
I believe you need to flood the engraved areas with white paint to get that look. Leave the masking on, fill the areas, then carefully remove the masking.
There are either no/bad instructions so you should use the “report this design” button on the catalog entry and advise them of the issue!
This sounds easier, just start with black acrylic, engrave, and flood with white… the catalog photos definitely show white edges. There are a whole bunch of designs using that method. So that’s frustrating.
I printed on black acrylic, which is what is recommended, left the masking on, spray painted with white, my edges ended up white too. You could also leave the asking on and use a white paint pen to color the bones.
I agree with @deirdrebeth, “report this design”. At least minimal instructions should be included.
Thank you all! It looked like the white was raised so that’s why I was questioning it. I will report the design & just use black acrylic.
