Is it possible in the glowforge?

The Glowforge cannot engrave stainless steel. Also, the tallest item that can be engraved is 2". I would guess that most tumblers are taller than 2". The Glowforge can remove coating/paint from stainless steel items, but not actually engrave (burn away) the metal.
Yeah, you’d need at least 10x the power of the Glowforge to mark metal, and unless you are considering shot glasses or thimbles, a tumbler is not going to fit in there.
The machine is designed to cut and engrave flat materials like wood and acrylic. There are industrial-class machines designed for what you are asking, at significantly greater cost.
Thank you that’s what I thought but wanted to see what others thought
If you have something powder-coated, it’s perfectly capable of blowing away the powder coating down to the steel. I do this with extremely specific nerdy bottle openers I make.
But yes, as noted, the bigger issue is that the GF isn’t really tall enough to do something much thicker than a shot glass.
It’s possible but you’d have to void your warranty and cut a whole at the bottom of your machine. I did mine after the warranty expired. Then you’d have to use marking spray or use a coated tumbler. Another way is stenciling by using the glowforge to cut out stencil, taping it on the metal and using a hand tool to engrave the design (as shown on the flask)
My machine is long past its warranty. I was asked to put a couple names on some tumblers, will probably just use my Cricuit and do permanent vinyl.
The etching idea is something to think about though, thank you
The 3M backed veneer wood is also an interesting possibility.
