Stormageddon Is HERE!

Exactly. That was my one and only thought when I saw that first pic here. So weird how off that first pic looked! I’m REALLY glad that second pic completely revises that!

Don’t be silly. Everybody knows that’s a crack in the fabric of time itself.

this isn’t a gripe at you but i think a lot of people don’t understand how much camera lenses can warp perspective.

I was hoping the camera on the head would be used for precision alignment. It would seem that it would be much closer and a lot less distortion. I originally thought the lid camera would be used as a preview only. Maybe the camera in the head isn’t that type of camera?

Maybe someone will post a founder center ruler by the time mine arrives. It would be way more useful than a standard ruler.

Yeah - people forget that his was back in December. My PRU was spot on calibrated against a steel ruler. I think I posted that in my first “I got it” posting.

Congrats! Thanks for walking us through it all. Is the Founder ruler not accurate? It looks a bit off.

I do. But, ya gotta admit, that was some interesting distortion.

read the rest of the thread, this is what the current discussion is about. the updated pic is much nicer looking.

i mean, it’s what you get with any wide angle close-up. blowing things close up and compressing further away from the center. add a grid and you can watch the scale warp predictably.

Believe that what you thought is still the case. Just a capability not yet released.

yes, dan just referenced this in another post yesterday.

Yes. But knowing that doesn’t make the visual any less interesting. At least not to me.

That’s like saying “Well, yes, when you apply the paint on canvas in that particular pattern it will resemble a woman.” But the Mona Lisa is still amazing to behold.

that is absurd

Ah, thanks. I had not seen that. I just had a moment to hop in and look at any new projects.

no worries, this thread already has like fifty replies, half of them probably mine because i’m pathologically incapable of shutting up

That might be 2/3 of the forum, really. You are in good company…at least mediocre company.

That was at least halfway a self-reference.

I think the main issue is parallax, not lens distortion. The close up lens tricks you into thinking the parallax due to difference in thickness of the rulers should be a lot less than it is. It certainly fooled me.

Yeah Ive not seen it in that order before this maker faire. I had a BAMF engraved belt buckle on my table from overwatch, and a number of people bought one. I thought they were overwatch fans. Maybe they thought it was “Bay Area Maker Faire”, and not what it really means lol

Sorry about that, it was a bad picture on my front. I updated the photo in the main post, so hopefully won’t cause more confusion.

No worries. I saw that it has been asked a lot…didn’t mean to heap on. Thanks for taking the time to document what you did with the arrival of your GF.
