Each time I go to a post to read something new, on my return, even if I use the ‘back’ button, the topics have changed.
This means that the one that caught my eye, just before I moved on, has disappeared, and the old grey cells can’t remember what it was, so I’ll never know 
Is there a way to stop the topics changing ? or anything else I can do ?

I can empathize. I do find if I refresh the page things tend to sort back closer but so often I end up with the search option and trying to remember what I saw.
I do tend to read based on the latest bottom up instead of any category though.
you can always open a new window or tab when you see something with shift or ctrl/command click. but you might end up like some of us with hundreds of tabs/windows.
I wish I had a good solution for you - I open in new tabs, or just read everything so I don’t have to worry about missing anything.
