Teacher get students to design

I am a high school teacher.
Is there a way that a student could open glowforge, upload their design, create all the cut paths, and share that with me to cut?

Your students can design in other software like Inkscape, save as .pdf or .svg and send you their designs for you to print.

If you really want them to do the upload and arranginging, you’ll just have to trust them to not hit print - of course they can do all of that with the laser off, so they couldn’t hit print until you wanted them to anyway!

You can create additional users under your account (I think there’s a limit of 5 or so) - you could create one for the students to use as a group though!

@reynoso is right that designing an SVG in another program, such as Inkscape, is a good way to keep control over the Glowforge usage, while still giving your students the chance to create the design.

Like @deirdrebeth suggested, some smaller schools will create a single shared account for all of their students to log into, separate from the teacher’s account - although this isn’t the most secure solution.

let me also advocate for a program like inkscape. keep in mind that if your GF isn’t running the premium subscription, your files will only live in the UI for 30 days. if you create in inkscape first, you always have your source files. additionally, while there’s some functionality in the GF UI, it pales i comparison to what you can do in inkscape/illustrator. on top of that, your students will learn how to use a real design program, which would be a good skill to get from your class.

Once designs are uploaded to the Glowforge App, they will be added to your design library accessed through the Dashboard. That can be handy when reprinting an existing design and make it accessible for other students to use as well.

This is the only solution that does what the OP is looking to do. Designing in Inkscape is only 1/2 of what they want to do. The other part:

requires them to be in the GFUI to create the different operations. In an education environment that’s the test to see if they master the whole workflow.
