Walking Man statue

#1

My friend is graduating at the end of the month and will be a certified Radiologic Technologist. I made him this little walking man statue as a graduation gift. Both the back silhouette and the engraved acrylic come out of the stand. I can’t get a good pic of it, but the engraving glows in the dark.

I gotta say, that little stand kicked my butt. I went through so much material as everything that could go wrong, did go wrong and I had to remake it a couple of times. One of which didn’t happen until I glued it. I didn’t think the TitebondIII glue would set within a millisecond and I didn’t get things lined up in time. (Good glue, just be prepared!)

After the first skeleton engrave, I cleaned up the image and made a more detailed version (bottom pic.). I was going to re-cut the final piece and use the finer image, but ran out of acrylic. I am working on not being a perfectionist, but it’s tough :-/ Oh well, I need to order more acrylic, but it was a good learning experience.

Love how that casts the shadow behind! (Great job on the stand too.) :grinning:

#3

That is so… effing… cool.

#4

Amazing! I love the shadow. Say, you are really good at these skeletons–any Da Vinci blood in you?

#5

Wild, I love the shadows.

#6

That is super neat! Nicely done!

#7

Very effective use of the engraved acrylic contrasting the wood backing. Excellent subject matter and perfect as a gift for the graduate. Custom gifts. It’s the best thing!

#8

Supercool! I love glow in the dark stuff.

#9

That’s pretty groovy!

#10

That is cool! And, as others have stated, the shadow effect rocks!

#11

That is quite some nice work you go there. Tell me more about that awesome leather chair, is it?!

#12

Omigosh! Your friend is going to love that…beautiful work!

#13

You Sir, have good taste  That beauty of a chair was my $99 flea market find. She has a prominent place in my front room so it’s one of the first things you see. I have yet to work on replacing her springs though so I have to be careful when using her.

Bazinga :sunglasses:

What he said :arrow_double_up: Love the concept and the execution

#16

An amazing gift! Excellent work!

#17

What he said…lol. Amazing!! And the shadow looks really cool…

#18

My first Beer Drinking Buddy just LOVED your skeleton @kittski !!!

When your friends can’t hold their liquor it leaves more for you.

This is so fantastic! This is exactly the kind of projects I’d like to do in acrylic.
