What’s the deal with the safety glasses? I have the 45w pro version which came with the safety glasses. When should you be wearing them? Any time you look through the glass top while it’s running?
Harmful laser radiation will not pass through the glass top. The glasses are a very conservative response to the very remote possibility that the light could be reflected through the pass thru slot with the shields removed. And of course you are staring through the slot.
People do stupid things.

Have you not completed the laser safety class?
But yeah, as @rpegg said, if the safety shields are installed it is operating in class one mode and they can just sit and collect dust. Remove the shields and everyone in the room will need laser glasses.
