When I go to Print - Error to restart comes up, already done that 20x - still not working HELP!

So I’m having an issue, not sure where the true issue is coming from so here’s a list of things that I’ve done:

I’ve replaced the black cable, both LED lights and the camera cable. Also I’ve replaced the carriage. Only thing original now is the Laser Print Head and the White Cable attached to the Print Head and my best guess is it’s one of those things that’s having the issue.

So, I turn on the printer, it does the full calibration, takes the picture, flawless no issues doing that.
So then I upload my artwork, set it where I want it, and then I hit ‘Print’
I see the arm move on the printer, as it always does, but then it stops. It does not move back to starting position and the error occurs.

I’ve checked the cable, although it’s worn from many years of use, there are no tears or visible signs of damage. The prongs are clean and straight, nothing bent or broken. I’ve also cleaned the contacts underneath and on the carriage - still nothing.

I am noticing that when the arm makes its’ move, that I don’t see the red light that appears on my board so that’s where I get confused with it being the head or the cord. Any help or suggestions would be useful.

I’ve also shut it down, rebooted it AND my internet multiple times. Again, it has no problems sensing the machine and doing the picture so I very much doubt it’s the internet connection.

Again, any help would be useful. I’ve already ordered another white cable, crossing my fingers the head is fine though.

When you use the set focus tool, does the printhead move to where you click and does the red beam land on the material?

It sounds like you’re using this hobby machine as a commercial tool, and that you’ve owned it for some time. These are not commercial-quality machines, they are for occasional hobby use, so wear on the mechanics will take it’s toll over time.

Now, with that said, the main grey cable can be replaced - it could be broken internally without external signs of damage. Some have found sources to obtain one and change themselves. Others have reported good experience with the only known “service center” (Wiregrass). So, you could try sourcing a cable and disassembling your machine to replace it, or sending your machine out for assessment and repair. Know, however, that the tube is also a consumable item with a limited lifespan, and the power supply is also not designed for indefinite use.

I second the set focus question.

If it successfully manages a focus then it rules some things out.

I assume you’ve spoken to support? If not they can also look at your logs to see if there is more information behind the scenes. Support has a phone number these days, you can find it on https://support.glowforge.com

Let us know if set focus works and what support says. This is unusual.
