Hello Everyone,
Where do you purchase your plywood and can you use 1/4 inch plywood with the Glowforge Pro?
There are glowforge owners all over the world. You might want to be more specific by adding in what country you live in.
I live in LAYTON ,Utah.
I see that you have invested 2 hours in reading the forum, so you are off to a good start regarding sourcing materials. Plywood is quite variable, 1/4" plywood is a challenge for the Glowforge to cut cleanly. Here are some discussion threads regarding 1/4" plywood that may be helpful to you.

Country and region too. I buy my wood at a local lumber yard here in Southern California. You wouldn’t be able to find it the same store outside of this area.
1/4 on a pain to cut on the best of days. The best results I had with 1/4-inch was proofgrade plywood. The stuff from the big box stores has way too many voids and glue pockets in them. But I haven’t searched much more than that for 1/4-inch, since I deal mostly with 1/8" wood. If I need something thicker, I usually cut two 1/8" and glue them together. It works for me since I’m not making anything huge.
There is a wood place here in CA that I have heard good things about, and they sell online.
But I haven’t tried them yet. I was thinking of driving there the next time I needed some. I’ve also had good experiences with Planks and Blanks on Etsy, though they cut their wood about 12x19, instead of 20."
Thank you for your response I don’t have problem researching the community. And my second question on where is everyone purchasing wood I want purchase enough with out it costing me a lot. But thank you again for your help.
There are many that could be local. Michaels and Jo-Ann’s Fabrics sometimes carry Glowforge Proofgrade. On the web, there are tons of folk selling work especially cut for a Glowforge, and many more that sell 12x12x1/4 and 12x24x 1/4
I use 1/4" wood a lot, particularly with deep relief engraves. For just testing or where the material is not a factor I use a material called Revolution Ply that is just under a quarter-inch and get the 48x96 inch sheets cut at 19" sheets that get 5 of them per, and since I have a pro I cut what I need from that.
Thank you I will look on Etsy.
Most big box places like Lowes have the Revolution Ply that is not without any issues but the lowest price and fewest issues
Thank you so much for help.
I would also check the cherokee wood that I linked above. They sell Baltic Birch in 1/8 and 1/4, cut to Glowforge size. The price seems very reasonable. I wanted to drive there only to see their selection in person, but what they show online is usually what I use anyways.
I only say this because the BB I usually buy from my local place went from $11 dollars for a 5x5 sheet to $41 dollars for the same sheet during the last year of skyrocketing prices. Cherokee Wood sells the same sheet locally for $34. So their prices are cheaper.
Right now I see they have 1/4" BB pre-cut packs with 15 sheets for $34, which I don’t think you can get that price anywhere on Etsy.
Need to mention I don’t know how much shipping is though!
Thank you.
I just discovered this link on their website…I might have added a bit too much in my cart…
Glad you suggested these folks. I just finished chatting with them, online, and ordered a “sample pack” that they put together for me. He/she seemed knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. Decent prices too…although shipping cost was nearly as much as the product.
Wish I would have seen your second link, before placing my order. I would have gotten some of those exotic woods, too.
Yes, I wasn’t sure about shipping. I’m local, so I have free local pick up as an option. Let me know how it is. I’m “local” but it’s still an hour drive.
Will do.
For plywood, I have used Purebond from THD the most for the past couple of years. You have to check for when it’s available. No masking but it’s for projects where that rarely matters.
I used a fair amount of Baltic Birch before that, but quality and availability went down hill here.
I’ve only used 1/4" a little and avoid it at all costs now. Just too many issues. Same with cheap plywood from the big box stores. Muddled thru but learned my lesson.
I’ve used the HD purebond as well that @eflyguy is referencing and have always had good luck with it.
