I bet I would have love this show. I think I was just a few years too young. I think the absurdity of old science fiction TV shows is what makes them so fun to watch.

Exactly! I love how Heinlein’s spaceships and robots all have vacuum tubes in their circuitry.

I’m going to agree with you on that! It was a very “mod” production. The future was so retro back then. Purple hair.

The series is apparently in the public domain now and is available at archive.org. https://archive.org/details/UFO.complete

There was this Colonial Viper.

My take-away from that show was that the ship was always crashing on the pad. Nice model of it though.

Space 1999  what do I win.

My husband was/is a fan! Not having watched it myself, I was pretty proud when I saw a couple at a con, successfully identified them as Space 1999 cosplayers, and pointed them out. Really nice-looking model – immediately recognizeable, and I love the multiple axes and angles of layered material.

A free tube of nostalgia!

I loved Space 1999! I used to watch reruns in the 80s when I was a kid. Even then, I thought the entire premise of the show made no sense at all. :stuck_out_tongue: I forced my wife to watch them all again with me recently, and somehow we’re still married.

kinda hoping for a bucket. it was amazing that they could have so much stuff destroyed with no apparent way to rebuild it and yet have more ships handy immediately.

kind of like the show " the 100", with rubber gloves over 100 years later. LOL ain’t gonna happen folks

Martin Landau and Barbara Bain!!.. from Mission Impossible, right?

This bothered me until I realized that every story takes place in its own universe. In that universe vacuum tubes play a much larger role than in ours.

Seriously though, while the hit to miss is not that good the things he got right he really got right.
Cell phones, water beds, waldos… And yes, waldos get their name from his description.
And yes, I get mad when rocket scientists don’t call a Clarke orbit a Clarke orbit!

Whats a waldo?

All remote manipulators are widely known as waldos such as medical tools, remote arms for handling radio active materials, etc. Named after a book called Waldo and Company.

Looooooved the show and this Eagle is great!

Nice Eagle. This is the kind of model that would look good with some 3D laser made pieces added to the Glowforge pieces.

Cool
