I am having a reoccurring issue with wifi! My Glowforge says that it is busy or offline. I called support a few weeks ago and they said it was a router issue, but I also got in touch with my router customer support and they’re saying it is not an issue on their end. I did purchase a wifi extender and that doesn’t seem to have helped either. I have never had an issue connecting to wifi until now! When I contacted customer support about it they were little to no help and could never fully explain the issue which happened shortly after the new update. Is anyone else having similar issues?
Try using your phone as a wifi hotspot…
Update was the web UI, has nothing to do with machine or wifi.
I switched wifi on mine this morning, works fine as it always has. Hold the button for 10s until it goes teal, and go to setup.glowforge.com
I’ve tried that multiple times, unplugged my router, Glowforge and all the different tips and tricks and all support tells me is that my Glowforge is trying to connect to our wifi. My WiFi speed is great just starting to think it could be a router issue.
Did you try using your phone?
Yes, I’ve tried using my phone and it’s still the same issue. I even moved my glowforge right next to my router and still, I get the message that my Glowforge is connected to the internet but based on what customer support is telling me the Glowforge isn’t able to “connect”. I’ve ran speed tests on my router and it’s not slow by any means but that is what Glowforge keeps suggesting. Just wondering if others have this same issue before I go out and buy an entirely new router.
Is this still the same router that worked in the past?
Yes router worked for the longest time!
Routers to go bad, but if you get the same errors when using a phone, the issue is likely not the router.
Yes, I am having a very similar issue. i use apartment hotspot and phone hotspot but nothing with connect my laptop to my Gf aura. I was on the phone with tech support for 2.5 hours today and accomplished nothing. So I’m giving up and offering my machine for sale. If I can’t sell it in two weeks, it’s going to the dumpster, that and the air filter.
Hrm…you don’t actually connect the computer to that Aura, just use the computer to connect the Aura to your WiFi. Which part of the connection process is giving you an error?
Yes, but we tried everything for 2.5 hours. All I eventually got was an error message that said Glowforge cannot connect to wifi and a few suggestions. But that was it, Needless to say, we looked over those suggestions, but nothing panned out.
Sorry but I’m not sure your right about that. I was able to see my design I wanted to engrave in the glowforge app on the computer, but the image won’t make it to the GF. On the app it just keeps saying “OFFLINE”.
My problem is that my GlowForge will say I’m connected to the intranet but it’s struggling to hold the connection even when I’m right next to my router so that’s why I’m assuming I could have a router issue. So sorry to hear about your issue! I hope you’re able to find a solution. I haven’t always found support to be super helpful in the past either
You are not connected to your machine. You are connected to the GF UI app in the cloud. Your machine also connects to the cloud, once you complete the wifi setup process to establish a way for it to do that.
The only time your local device connects to the machine is during wifi setup, to select the network you want it to use. From there, the machine could be used from across the planet if needed (of course, you’d need someone locally to load materials and hit the magic button…)
I’m not understanding what you’re saying. Me and the support guy tried for 2.5 hrs. To connect the machine using the wifi from my apartments and my phone hotspot and the temporary GF connection and nothing worked.
If the machine cannot connect to multiple working wifi networks, then it is faulty. Buying a new router is unlikely to make a difference.
At one point, way back in the early days and just to test a point, I boughtt a brand new router from a local store that had a generous return policy. It confirmed the connectivity “weakness” was due to the choice of wifi module used in the Glowforge itself. It’s a very poor quality part. That was not going to be changed, so I just lived with the issue using the workaround I had come up with.
Would you mind telling me the workaround?
For me it was a 2nd type of wifi extender, the 1st did not change anything. In all that time, I had the exact same wifi router - just the one the broadband provider gave me (I had Gb fiber.)
But in my case, using my mobile device as a hotspot was working - it just wasn’t a practical solution.
I will say the broadband here where I am staying temporarily is VERY poor, and the wifi on the provider’s router is awful. Not my problem to fix, though. I won’t be here forever.
Support says that my machine is trying to connect to my wifi but is struggling to keep a connection. I did purchase a wifi extender but that didn’t help, I just purchase a new router so I will see if that helps at all.
I am going to try a mobile hotspot option as well to see if that helps to determine if it’s my machine that’s the issue or not.
Thanks for the advice, in regard to the wifi extender you tried that worked a second time. What type of wifi extender did you purchase?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1WW638
The first one I bought was useless. This one extended my wifi from just within my home, to way out in the garage and yard.
My reasons were different, though. I had other devices that would not work reliably outside the range covered by my router. My GF had worked fine. I mentioned the poor choice of wifi module in the GF because that is a fact, but the reason I bought the extender was not based on issues using the GF. I bought another 3D printer later the same year and tested - from where it needed to be located, it could not even see my wifi without the extender.
