I cannot for the life of me in illustrator get this thing right. Just trying to engrave it. any help would be appreciated.
You might need to zip that up and attach the zip file. Sometimes SVGs don’t do well here.
What’s not right about it? A few more details about your goal would help

That looks like something where you would just want the lines. Fill the blue, gray and black with white, more of a Photoshop/Paint/GIMP thing. Then either engrave the PNG or trace it in AI and do a vector engrave of the black lines.
