This one has been in progress since August of last year trying to plan ahead for when my eufyMake E1 UV printer would finally arrive. It didn’t get here until January, but many of you already know the challenges of backing a kickstarter campaign. The assembled polyhedral sat on a shelf patiently waiting on the eufyMake to arrive. Anyway, the only reason I even bought a 3D printer back in 2018 was to make a dymaxion globe which started me down a never-ending rabbit hole of building polyhedrals. Fast forward to buying a UV printer, this opened up a ton of new possibilities for adding color to my designs. The projection of this map was done using the Flexify photoshop plugin, printed on clear acrylic with the eufyMake e1, and laser cut on my Glowforge using Snapmarks.. The design of the Strombic Hexecontahedron was done in Fusion 360 and 3D printed on a Bambu X1-C. Of course lights were added and a small WLED controller was placed inside to create the lighting patterns because why not. It’s great being able to use multiple maker tools for this amazing globe.
Thank you for sharing this amazing project. I am inspired to see the way a UV printer, laser cutter, 3d printer, lights and a creative mind work together to produce a visual delight. You make such good use of your tools!
This is extraordinary. Thank you for sharing photos of the process as well as the final product. How I wish I could hold this in my hands and examine it more closely!
My printer came a few weeks ago but I haven’t set it up yet. I don’t have anything so ambitious planned for it. I plan to print on acrylic for jewelry to begin with.
That turned out amazing! I had seen it on fb. Alas, I’m still waiting on my printer. I have the rotary and the laminator but no printer or ink…fingers crossed it comes soon. Fabulous result of all the work you did on it!
Unfortunately, it may be a while before I can share it, as my new UV printer is low on ink and may need to wait a bit to finish printing as ink for the new eufyMake printers probably won’t be available until March or maybe even April. But as a teaser, it might be the favorite thing I’ve made. It’s incredibly nerdy.
Amazing as always! With all the tools you have though, the best one you use is your brain. And you use it to the very highest achievement! Thank you for always sharing your projects with us.
