Alignment Issues on the Aura

I bought my glowforge Aura at the begining of October and have used it maybe 5-6 times. It had alignment issues on the 3rd print. I followed instructions and cleaned it & then it did 2 more prints just fine. It has since began not aligning yet again and i cleaned it a second time. Why am i having this issue? Did i waste my money on this craft laser? Please help!

too note, ive cut this file once already and it turned out fine so its not the file

When the rails of the Aura get debris on them, this happens. It is necessary to clean the rails very often. Also, Glowforge does not recommend cutting mdf/draftboard or 1/8" plywood in the Aura because both products produce so much debris that the performance of the machine is adversely affected.

That much debris wouldn’t form after 2 cuts? I cleaned it, performed a test cut on a 3mm Basswood & then did this cut. The test cut cut fine, this did not. Test cut run time was approx 20 mins & this cut was 1hr 40min

Wiping the rails after every cut is probably your best bet. Many people do this.

I will try this i guess.

Glowforge officially recommends wiping down the rails after every ten hours of use but acknowledges that it may sometimes be necessary to do so more often:

  • You should clean the rails every ten hours of printing, but you may need to clean them more often depending on what you’re printing.

“Debris” can include sticky smoke residue, 5-6 cuts in some materials can definitely warrant wiping the rails already.
