Any quilters here that cut their own rulers?

I need a 60 degree ruler and I downloaded a pdf but before I cut I wanted to see if anyone else has done it in here.

There was one great post about quilting rulers I think. I’d have to search it down.

Update: no luck. If it’s on here I’m not getting the search terms right. Maybe @kelley1 might know? She’s into textiles.

My wife is a quilter, so I’ve made quite a few rulers. Some of them are in the Catalog"

I also have series of 10 to 22.5 degree quilting wedges as well.

I have cut quilting templates out of 1/8 inch clear acrylic. They work great. It’s important to engrave any markings with the pattern reversed so the marks are on the underside of the template.

I’ve found this to be true for all of my acrylic jigs, templates, and rulers. It also helps a lot to use a clear florescent color as that makes the markings “pop” without having to use any type of ink to make them visible.

Definitely!

Good to know! Florescent would also make it easier to see on different materials, as most people don’t use florescent colors. And definitely easier to see than clear! I wouldn’t have thought of that. Silly me!

Fluorescent green in particular, it really glows.

Is that an actual green or the nearly yellow safety green?:grin:

Yeah it’s a yellowy green. I made a keychain once and it was very bright.

This is under normal ambient light.

I agree, but my local quilting customers (for whom I create custom templates & rulers) vastly prefer clear. I think it’s because it’s what they’re used to and doesn’t distort the underlying colors/patterns.

In any case, the customer is always right.

…in matters of taste.

People don’t wanna remember that part.
